Code of Conduct

The Sunshine Football Club is a family based, people inclusive and community focused Football Club that values its players, members, sponsors and supporters’ ambitions and objectives. The Code of Conduct serves as a practical guide for Players when representing the Sunshine Football Club.

Players Code of Conduct

1. Respect - At all times

  • Coaches

2. Safety is Paramount – Everyone has the right to feel “Safe” at all times

  • Coaches

3. Discrimination Will not be tolerated in any form, with sanctions enforceable by the WRFL

  • Race

  • Religion

  • Gender

4. Abusive Behaviour - Will not be tolerated in any form

5. Parent/Supporter Conduct

  • Always be supportive of all Players, Coaching Staff and Volunteers

  • Direct all concerns to the Junior Administrator in the first instance

As a Sunshine Player we acknowledge the rules of the Sunshine Football Club and the Laws of the WRFL

Be a Team Player – It’s a team game and played in the Spirit of the Game

Play for your enjoyment

No Smoking or Consumption of Alcohol permitted at JUNIOR games

Breaches

The club requires a report about any Member, Player, Parent or Supporter who may be in breach of any code to be made directly to the executive committee and the following information must be provided:

  • Details of the offence

  • What section of the code has the offence breached

  • Names of Witnesses

The executive committee will provide in writing notice to the Member, Player, Parent or Supporter to attend a mediation meeting to investigate, establish the facts and determine if in fact there was any breach.

  • Failure to attend the mediation meeting could result in automatic assumption of guilt and the appropriate penalty provided.

  • The person will receive such penalty in writing.

Any Member, Player, Parent or Supporter who are found in breach of any of the codes could face penalties as decided by the executive committee.

The executive committee reserves the right to determine the penalty based on the severity of the breach and in severe cases this may result in instant termination from the club.

Players Code Of Conduct Acknowledgement

By registering as a player I hereby commit, to the best of my ability, to uphold the Players Code of Conduct of the Sunshine Football Club.

I understand that as an integral component of me playing Australian Rules Football, I must maintain a standard of behaviour and conduct in the best interests of the game, team mates and club officials.

In representing myself in an honest manner and without bringing the game into disrepute, I will endeavour to uphold the following to the best of my ability:

  1. I will respect the rights, dignity and worth of all individuals within the context of my involvement in Australian Rules Football and the Sunshine Football Club, including refraining from any discriminatory practices based on race, religion, ethnic background, or special ability/disability.

  2. I will play by the rules of the club and the laws of the game.

  3. I will never argue with an umpire or other official – without these people, we can’t play football.

  4. I will be supportive at all times and I will refrain from any form of bullying, personal abuse or unnecessary physical contact with my team mates and the opposition players.

  5. I will cooperate with my coach, umpires and team mates.

  6. I will play for enjoyment and to improve my skills.

  7. I will at all times display appropriate sporting behaviour, ensuring the practice of fair play.

  8. I will display and foster respect for team mates, umpires, opponents, coaches, administrators, other officials, parents and spectators.

Coaches Code of Conduct

  • Players must always be addressed in a controlled and positive manner.

  • No offensive language or cultural, sexist or racist references.

  • Coaches are not to involve themselves in negative dialogue with opposition, coaches, officials, players, spectators or umpires.

  • Coaches and team managers are responsible for the conduct of their officials, players and parents and should ensure that all behave in a responsible manner, accepting the decisions of umpires and officials.

  • Coaches are required to report, to the committee, any official or spectator who they believe are behaving in a manner which may reflect badly on the Sunshine Football Club, as soon as possible.

  • Abide by the Laws and Rules of your club and your league

  • Teach the Rules, and mutual agreements which nobody should break

  • Group players competitively

  • Avoid overplaying talented players

  • Maximise fun and place winning in perspective

  • Stress safety always

  • Consider maturity levels and devise training programs to suit all

  • Develop team respect for opponents, umpires and coaches

  • Recognise the importance of proper injury treatment

  • Keep up to date with coaching developments

  • Attain coaching accreditation and update regularly

  • Avoid derogatory language based on gender or race.

Officials Code of Conduct

  • Compliment both teams on their effort.

  • Be consistent, objective and courteous in calling all infractions.

  • Condemn the deliberate foul as being unsportsmanlike and promote fair play and appropriate sports behaviour.

  • Use common sense to ensure that over calling violations does not lose the spirit of the game for children.

  • Actions speak louder than words. Ensure that your own behaviour is consistent with the principles of good sportsmanship.

  • Make a personal commitment to keep yourself informed of sound officiating principles and the principles of growth and development of children.

  • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities.

  • Don’t do anything that will discredit or bring adverse attention to your club.

  • Remember you are representing your club / league and setting as example to your players / parents

  • Try to resolve any conflict in a calm, sensible manner (when possible in private)

  • Be aware of potential volatile situation at all times and be prepared to deal with them appropriately

Parents and Spectators Code of Conduct

  • Encourage participation but do not force your child to play if they don’t want to.

  • Focus on the child’s effort and performance rather than the result of the game.

  • Teach children that an honest effort is more important than victory so that results are accepted without undue disappointment.

  • Children learn best by example. Acknowledge good play from both teams.

  • Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game.

  • Do not abuse umpires or opposition players and officials.

  • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities.

  • If you disagree with an umpires decision, raise it through the appropriate channels. Don’t question his decision in public.

  • Recognise the value and importance of volunteer officials. Without them there would be no game.

  • Always encourage children to play by the rules and accept the umpires’ decision at all times

  • Remember, involvement is for their enjoyment, not yours

  • Support your club officials to foster high standards of behaviour for your club and the league

Social Media Code of Conduct

Sunshine Kangaroos Football Club encourages you to contribute to our community, with comments, questions and feedback. We appreciate your feedback and passion for our fantastic club; however we do have a few simple house rules.

1. Sunshine Kangaroos Football Club does not condone the use of profanity, spam or unauthorised commercial content, harassment, discrimination, defamation, threats, abuse or any other content that may be damaging to our club and or otherwise violate the legal rights (such as rights of privacy and publicity) of others. We will remove any comments that are, in our view, inappropriate, offensive, defamatory, infringing, obscene, indecent, misleading, unlawful, or disrespectful. Any post containing spam, unauthorised advertising, link to third party websites, commercial content, or the unnecessary re-posting of links or comments will also be removed. Repeat offenders will be removed from this page.
